Monday, October 13, 2025, is Columbus Day in the United States, a federal holiday celebrated on the second Monday of October. The holiday was established in 1937 and marks the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492. The observance of Columbus Day has evolved over time, with the holiday also being recognized as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in some places to honor Native Americans.
Super Cafe and Ms. Lane Sandwich Shop at 106 W 7th Street , Metropolis, IL invites those in need to join them for a nourishing hot meal, featuring baked chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans, sodas, and Gatorade.
They are also providing personal hygiene items to support those in need.

FORT MASSAC ENCAMPMENT Education Day
Mark your calendars for Friday October 17th, 2025, as Fort Massac State Park will become the biggest History Classroom in Southern Illinois. Step into the past and witness history come to life right before your eyes. From the French and Indian War to the early 1800s, your students will be fully immersed in historical events like never before. Our all-star team of volunteer re-enactors will be on hand to showcase demonstrations and presentations that will make history class the highlight of your school year! Say goodbye to boring textbooks and hello to an unforgettable learning experience. Ready to make history? Join us for Education Day!!! Buses are recommended to arrive at 9AM. Program will begin at 9:30AM and end at 2:00PM Each group will receive a schedule for the day upon arrival. Limited food vendors will be open. Students should bring sack lunches for a lunch break from 11AM – 12PM Merchants will sell items on a limited basis. Registration is not required but highly recommended due to high numbers of students attending. To ensure your school/homeschool is included in the school day program, please email

The Metropolis and Massac County Farmers Market is excited to announce an extended market opportunity in observance of the Fort Massac Encampment Weekend!
To take full advantage of the crowds and festivities, vendors will have the option to set up on both Friday and Saturday this week.
Extended Setup Dates: Friday, October 17th AND Saturday, October 18th
Market Start Time (Both Days): 8:00 AM
This is an excellent chance to showcase your products to a larger audience, including the many visitors attending the Encampment.
