12P – The Kiwanis Club of Metropolis meets every Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 520 Ferry Street in Metropolis

12P – The Rotary Club of Metropolis meets every Thursday at Community Christian Church, 1150 Country Club Rd.

6:30P – The Massac County Historical Society at Elijah P. Curtis Home meets the first Monday of each month at 405 Market St.

5:30 – Metropolis Public Library – Board of Trustees Meeting -Third Tuesday of the month Basement of the Library – Open to the public.

The Metropolis Elks Lodge monthly meetings take place the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. Except July, August and December only the 1st Tuesday. Members only can attend. Applications can be picked up at the Lodge or from a member.

Metropolis Elementary PTO Meeting on Tuesday

The Metropolis Elementary School (MES) Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is excited to kick off the school year with its first meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, at 3:30 PM in the school library. This important gathering will focus on electing new officers, discussing the upcoming homecoming parade, and planning various activities for the year ahead.

All MES parents are encouraged to attend and get involved in the PTO. This organization aims to foster a connected community where parents can actively contribute to enhancing the school experience for both students and staff. Your participation is valuable, and the PTO welcomes any interested parents to join in the conversation.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Civil Rights Act of 1957 on September 9, 1957, marking the first federal civil rights legislation passed by the United States Congress since Reconstruction.
