The Pope County Historical Society is excited to announce an upcoming event that delves into the critical work of the Department of Defense in recovering Missing in Action (MIA) service members. On Tuesday, August 26th, at 6 PM, the community is invited to gather in the museum meeting room for an enlightening presentation titled “Department of Defense MIA Recovery Mission.”
The focus of the evening will be on Army Air Corps SGT Alfonso Duran, alongside an in-depth exploration of the role played by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) within the Department of Defense. This program will feature Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Krist Thodoropoulos, a former Senior Defense Official in Slovenia, who will share insights on how the DPAA’s mission intersects with historical, diplomatic, and scientific efforts to honor and recover our nation’s service members.
For those unable to attend in person, the presentation will also be livestreamed on Facebook via the Pope County Historical Society-The Packet page, providing a valuable opportunity to engage with this significant topic from the comfort of home.
Join us for an informative evening that highlights the dedication and efforts to bring our heroes back home.
