WMOK – Metropolis, IL – The Dixon Springs pool, a beloved recreational spot for residents of Pope County, Illinois, remains closed, leaving many community members eager for updates on its reopening. In response to frequent inquiries, Senator Dale Fowler looked into the situation for clarification on the ongoing situation and advised via social media.
According to IDNR, the concession contract for operating the Dixon Springs pool has been put out for competitive bids twice.
The first bidding opportunity was announced on April 14, 2025, followed by a second opening on May 7, 2025.
Unfortunately, neither bidding opportunity yielded any responses through the BidBuy platform, leaving the possibility of reopening the pool on hold.
Recognizing the importance of the pool to the community, the IDNR has emphasized its commitment to this facility. Over the past few years, approximately $183,000 has been invested into various improvements aimed at enhancing the pool experience for visitors. The department clearly recognizes the importance of the Dixon Springs pool as a community resource and is actively seeking solutions to resume operations as soon as possible.
In an effort to expedite the reopening process, the IDNR is exploring alternative options that could enable the park to open its pool this summer. As the situation develops, local officials remain hopeful that further information will be provided shortly, allowing families and individuals in the area to enjoy this essential recreational facility once again.
The local community is encouraged to stay informed and patient as the IDNR works diligently to resolve the issue. With summer fast approaching, the anticipation for a reopened Dixon Springs pool continues to grow, and residents remain optimistic about the potential for a timely reopening.
