John Schneider Brings Excitement to Metropolis During Surprise Visit

WMOK Metropolis, IL – There’s nothing quite like the excitement of a celebrity visiting our little corner of the world here in Metropolis, IL!

Every year, the Metropolis Superman Celebration brings in special guests, and it’s just around the corner. But sometimes, word gets out about a celebrity’s spontaneous visit, and pretty soon, our Facebook feeds are buzzing with hometown chatter.

Just this past weekend, our jaws dropped with excitement as John Schneider, known to many as Bo Duke from the beloved 1980s show “Dukes of Hazzard,” made his way to town.

We’ve always had a soft spot for him here at WMOK, not only due to the nostalgia on Dukes of Hazzard and the naration and theme song by the great Waylon Jennings – but especially after his memorable appearance on “The Masked Singer.”

John Schneider was heavily involved in the Superman-related TV show Smallville. He played the role of Jonathan Kent, Clark Kent’s adoptive father, for 100 episodes and also directed some episodes of the series.

We got the scoop about his visit from the Super Museum Facebook Page, where Morgan Seibert, the daughter of our beloved late Jim Hambrick, Keeper of Superman, often greets visitors as they arrive in Metropolis and step into the museum.

We’ve included some great photos, generously shared by John Schneider on his Facebook page.

Stay tuned to WMOK as we continue to share a few more photos from Schneider’s visit as well of recollections of other celebrities who have stopped in to our town to explore.

There’s always something special happening in Metropolis!

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL  — The Metropolis Public Library is excited to invite crafty people to its community initiative, the Nifty Needles Group.  This weekly gathering invites residents aged 11 and up to explore their creativity through knitting, sewing, embroidery, and other personal crafting projects.

Participants will convene in the library’s basement every Friday from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM to work on their individual projects. This group aims to provide a welcoming space for crafters to focus on their hobbies while enjoying a friendly atmosphere.

“Crafting is a wonderful way to express creativity and connect with others,” said the library’s program coordinator, Colby Kennedy. “We want to create an inclusive environment where individuals can share their skills, learn from one another, and enjoy refreshments provided by the library.”

The Nifty Needles Group is perfect for both beginners learning a new skill and experienced crafters wanting to refine their techniques or tackle larger projects. Participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies and ideas to share.

In addition to hands-on crafting, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in conversation with fellow enthusiasts, fostering a sense of community around shared interests.

The Metropolis Public Library is committed to serving the needs of its diverse population, and this new group is just one of many initiatives aimed at bringing people together through their common interests.

Volunteers with the Metropolis Community Spirit Needed for the Upcoming 2025 Superman Celebration in Metropolis – the 2025 Superman Celebration begins in just over one week

WMOK (Metropolis, IL) – WMOK recently spoke with Lisa Davis of the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce during the Chamber’s monthly board meeting. With just over a week until the 2025 Superman Celebration kicks off, the organizing committee continues to seek volunteers and local residents to serve in a ‘community ambassador’ role.

Davis explained that volunteers can expect to engage in various tasks, including manning booths and displays, setting up and taking down the celebration’s infrastructure, and assisting with various needs throughout the event in a ‘floating mode.’ As ambassadors of Metropolis, volunteers will likely interact with numerous visitors, answering questions and providing information about the area.

Additionally, Davis encouraged local businesses to foster a spirit of community involvement by creating challenges among their employees to help bring the 2025 Superman Celebration to life.

For those interested in volunteering or learning more, please contact Lisa Davis at 618-638-2444 via text or phone call. Your support could make a significant difference as the event approaches!
