Ryan Fritch, Superintendent of Pope County Schools. Last week, the Illinois State Board of Education denied the school district’s request for an Act of God Emergency Day, which was filed due to school closure on January 31st because of widespread illness.
Fritch advised “The state board determined that closing school due to illness did not meet the requirements for an Act of God approval. As a result of this denial, Pope County CUSD #1 will have to add an attendance day to the end of the school calendar. The last day of attendance for students will now be Friday, May 30th, with dismissal at 11:30 AM. Breakfast will be served, but lunch will not be served on the 30th. Dismissal on Thursday, May 29th, will remain at 2:00 PM as previously scheduled. For any questions, please contact the school office. Thank you for understanding.”
