Siren Testing This Morning

Dear Metropolis and Massac County Residents,

Today, the Metropolis Emergency Management and Massac County Emergency Management Agencies will be conducting an unscheduled test of our severe weather outdoor warning sirens. We recently completed maintenance on them and want to ensure they are in optimal condition to protect our community.

Please note, this is only a test and will occur at 10 am this morning. Your safety is our priority, and these tests help us gauge the sirens’ effectiveness in emergency situations.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in our mission to safeguard our neighbors. Stay safe!

Best regards,

Director Micah Tolbert
Metropolis Emergency Management

Director Brian Horn

Today and Tonight.

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms late this afternoon
and evening across the entire quad-state area. Conditions may not
quite come together for thunderstorms to form, but if they do very
large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes will be possible.

Thursday through Tuesday.

A more substantial risk for severe thunderstorms exists Friday
afternoon into Friday evening. Supercells with a large hail and
tornado risk may then form into a large complex of storms with a
significant damaging wind threat.

Additional storms are expected from Sunday night through Wednesday
with severe weather possible on Tuesday into Wednesday.

Expect multiple rounds of severe weather on Thursday and Friday, with Thursday possibly
having one early and another late in the evening, and Friday at least two rounds,
possibly including early morning and late afternoon storms, with large hail and damaging
winds being the main threats.

Metropolis City Clean Up Week This Week

Metropolis City Clean Up Week Upcoming -

WMOK – Metropolis, IL – As spring blossoms in Metropolis, the city is excited to announce its much-anticipated Spring Clean Up Week, scheduled from May 12th to May 16th. This annual event encourages residents to participate in a collective effort to keep our community clean and beautiful.

During Clean Up Week, residents are invited to declutter their homes and neighborhoods by placing unwanted items curbside for disposal. However, it’s important to note that this service will be available for this week only. To ensure a smooth collection process, all items must be placed at your regular pick-up point and positioned within five feet of the trash container.

City officials emphasize that cleanliness is key, and therefore, all items placed for collection must be either bagged or contained. Additionally, any loose items need to be bundled for easy handling by workers. To facilitate timely collection, residents should have their trash ready for pick-up on their designated day, with all items out by 6 a.m.

While this is a fantastic opportunity to dispose of unwanted items, residents should be aware of some restrictions. The following items will not be accepted: tires, batteries, hazardous or medical waste, car parts, satellites, yard waste, construction and demolition debris, flammable liquids, paint (unless it’s empty or dry), electronics, and appliances. This ensures that we maintain a safe and environmentally-friendly disposal process.
