Newly Elected Mayor, Gregg Jeffords Takes the Helm at Tonight's Swearing-In Ceremony and Metropolis City Council Meeting - Attend in Person or Watch on WMOK Facebook Live


WMOK (Metropolis, IL)  Newly elected Mayor Gregg Jeffords will be officially sworn in prior to tonight’s Metropolis City Council meeting. The swearing-in ceremony is set to take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Metropolis City Hall.

 

Along with Mayor Jeffords, other newly elected officials being sworn in include Jan Adams (Metropolis City Clerk), and Alderpersons Michelle Longworth (Ward 1), Cord Koch (Ward 2), Darryl Neill (Ward 3), and Chad Lewis (Ward 4 Alderman).

 

The city council meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. upstairs at Metropolis City Hall.

During the citizen and visitor requests segment, Erik Makela from the Illinois Department of Employment Security will speak. This department analyzes and disseminates labor market information throughout Illinois.

 

A few items on the mayor’s report for this evening include a motion to approve or reject payments to Sam Davis in the amounts of $6,400 and $19,200 for repairs at the new Happy Hearts; a motion for a payment of just over $7,600 for repairs to the backwash pump at the water treatment plant; and a motion to approve or reject payment to Quint Utilities and Excavating in the amount of $73,360 for the Hope Lane Storm Sewer Project.

 

Additionally, there will be motions to hire for the position of police officer in Metropolis, specifically to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of CJ Harrell, the expected resignation of Nick Holland, and the vacancy created by the retirement of Tim Davis. 

 

In the corporate council report for tonight’s meeting, there will be a proposal to adopt an ordinance implementing a municipal grocery retailer’s occupation tax and a municipal grocery service occupation tax for the City of Metropolis.

 

Again, the swearing-in ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the city council meeting at 7:00 p.m. upstairs at Metropolis City Hall.
