Attempted Child Abduction in Goreville - Johnson County Sheriff Releases Description and Request for Residents to Check Security Camera Footage


(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department advised on Wednesday afternoon that they are investigating an attempted child abduction in Goreville on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 2:40 p.m.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department Johnson County Sheriff’s Department responded to West Collins Street in Goreville for a report that an unknown blackmail with a shaved head attempted to abduct a 10-year-old girl from her backyard.

The child was able to fight the individual off and cause them to release her.

The subject was last seen running Southeast from the scene.

The child described him as being approximately 6 feet tall with a slender build, tattoos on his right arm. He was wearing a camouflage jacket with the sleeves cut off and blue jeans.

A neighbor reported seeing a white van in the area shortly before the incident with a black male driver wearing a purple shirt that is possibly connected.

Illinois State Police responded to the area and searched for the subject with a canine unit.

The release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department they advises that there’s nothing indicating that this was anything more than an isolated crime of opportunity.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department advises that if any residents on West Collins Street in Goreville or in that general area have cameras that they please check footage for Wednesday afternoon to see if anything is visible that may be related to this incident.
