St. John’s Church to Hold Outdoor Church Service on Sunday – Bring Your Lawn Chair
(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – WMOK spoke this week with Morgen Eckenberg McNichols, a member of St. John’s Church about the recent fire and their rebuilding process.  Morgen expressed to WMOK that it has been an understandably difficult and trying time for the church but their faith holds strong.  She said their church and it’s families look forward to growing the church back and using this trial to show that faith can withstand any tragedy.
St. John’s Church will continue their tradition of fellowship as they have never missed a Sunday service despite weather or circumstances.  All are invited to join them this Sunday (August 20) at 10:30 for outside church service on the grounds of St. John’s Church.  Folks are asked to bring their lawn chair.
Morgen shared with us a photo of the church as they want to remember it in all of it’s beauty

Local photographer and drone operator Kevin Choate, whose home neighbors the church shared drone footage of the church before the fire to his social media.  We will independently confirm with Mr. Choate – but as we understand it this footage was taken over he weekend preceding the fire.

St. John’s has issued a statement below:

St. John’s would like to reach out to the community to say thank you to everyone who has offered support and everyone who is praying for our church and it’s families.
A special thank you to all of the firefighters, police, and emergency personnel that worked the scene and are continuing to help us through this process.
St. John’s sanctuary has stood through lots of storms and trials in the past 129 years, we may have lost our walls, but we will rise from the ash and rebuild our home.
However, our fellowship and members are still standing and thanking the Lord for our safety and the new opportunities coming our way.
Our church family will withstand this and continue fellowship as we have never missed a service despite weather or circumstances.  Please feel free to join us, this Sunday at 10:30 for our outside church service at our grounds, bring your own chair.
Most of all, please take this time to remember how blessed we are and that the gospel message of Jesus will not be hindered by the this fire.
We look forward to growing our church back and using this trial to show that faith can withstand any tragedy.
Again, thank you all for the continued prayers and support.
We’ll have more on the rebuilding of St. John’s in next week’s WMOK News Check.
