Juvenile Located Unharmed Following Search at Dixon Springs State Park on Friday

On Friday the Rural Pope County Fire Protection District was toned for a search at Dixon Springs State Park for a missing juvenile.

County fire responded with Rescue 1 and Rescue 2 to the scene.   Also responding to the scene was Rural Pope County EMS, Pope County Sheriff’s Office, Pope County EMA, Pulaski County EMA with search K-9s, individual from Hardin County with a search K-9 and Illinois State Police and Conservation Police.

The juvenile was located and was unharmed.

Massac County Drug Awareness Coalition Requests the Participation of Parents ((ages 5th thru 12th grades))

The 2023 MCDAC Parent survey is for parents with 5th through 12th-grade children. This survey may take 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

American Legion Auxiliary #306 meeting Monday June 5th – 6pm – Potluck

The Massac County Historical Society at Elijah P. Curtis Home  meets the first Monday of each month at 6:30P at 405 Market St.

The Kiwanis Club of Metropolis meets every Tuesday at noon at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 520 Ferry Street in Metropolis

The Metropolis Elks Lodge monthly meetings take place the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. Except July, August and December only the 1st Tuesday. Members only can attend. Applications can be picked up at the Lodge or from a member.

June 9 – 11  Superman Celebration – Uptown Metropolis. Superman visits with fans from around the world. Comic art gallery, fan films, celebrity appearances, Superman Road Race, Super Trek Bike Ride, kids games, live music, costume contest, carnival and lots more. Most events are free. www.supermancelebration.net 618-524-2714. We invite our locals to come out and be a tourist for a few days with our treasured visitors from all over the world.

Saturday, June 10

7A-12P – Massac County Farmer’s Market – Dorothy Miller Park

8 AM – 2 PM – Superman Bicycle Ride – Washington Park – 10, 40, and 60 mile rides with rest stops and “sag wagon” support. The Superman Bicycle Ride is a tour through historic Massac County in southern Illinois. Come explore the countryside surrounding the Home of Superman — Metropolis, IL, located on the banks of the Ohio River, along I-24, halfway between St. Louis, MO, and Nashville, TN. Parts of the routes follow the old Ohio River bed before the channel changed its course hundreds of years ago. Enjoy the country charm as you pass by this majestic farmland.

 

10 AM to 5 PM – 2023 Metropolis Super Con, hosted by Burg Comics.


Sunday, June 11

Operation Healthy Delta Innovative Readiness Training will take place June 11-20 in Anna-Jonesboro, Sikeston, MO and Popular Bluff, MO. This will provide medical, dental, optical, physical therapy and emotional wellness services to residents (ages 2 and up) who are uninsured, underinsured, or in need of quality care at no cost. The first to arrive will be the first to have services provided.
