Stacey Reames of Citizens Against the Annexation of Joppa-Maple Grove joined us in the WMOK studio on Friday March 10th for Coffee Break to discuss the viewpoints of the group regarding the potential Joppa – Massac Annexation. The issue will be on the ballot in the April 4th election.
Reames told WMOK that though the facts and the numbers that have been presented are absolutely important pieces of the puzzle – they are not the only pieces. She pointed out per the feasibility study that the graduation rate at Joppa is higher than that of Massac High and that Chronic Absenteeism is lower at Joppa High. ^^She noted the Dual Credit Classes which are available at Joppa that allow students to begin their college career while attending high school.^^ Dual Credit Courses as well as AP Courses are available at Massac High School. We have updated this article with the listings for each school.
Reames said that the group feels that the decision to annex is premature noting that there are still many unknowns regarding what will become of the EEI property and how that tax revenue might alter the current figures.
