WMOK spoke with Mr. Crockett for a Coffee Break this week to learn more about the project.

Mr. Crockett said that they had toured a few buildings in uptown Metropolis when his wife was tooling with the idea of opening a business uptown and when they toured this property they liked it well enough to make an offer.

The Crocketts have owned the building for two years during which they have worked on rehabilitation of the property.

Three apartments existed in the upstairs and with space remaining, Crockett was able to add another.  Mr. Crockett  told WMOK that the four units were filled within four days upon announcing that the apartments for rental.

The bottom of the building consists of two storefronts.  One is rented to Honeysuckle Row and one is rented to BHK Treasures.

Upon buying the property, Mr. Crockett told WMOK that during renovation they did find old plaques, newspaper clippings and the like.  One of the main concerns was the sign.  They considered selling it as one Metropolis shop owner was interested in purchasing it.  Crockett began a search to find a company that could bring the sign back to it’s original splendor and found such with Signco.

The project was funded in part by the City’s Facade Grant program and an electric efficiency grant from the IMEA/ City of Metropolis’s Energy Efficiency Grant program.
